Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2012 R2
A new successor of Windows Server R2 is here in the market. Windows Server 2012 offers a secure and faster version. It provides application enhancements with Internet Information Service, new operating system releases, and powerful logical and virtual processor support. The release came with four different editions of Windows Server 2012 varying in cost, licensing and features.
Edition of Windows Server 2012 R2:
Essentials: This server edition is recommended for small companies. It includes all the functionality of the server except the virtualisation rights. The licensing model and memory limits are 25 users and 64 GB RAM.
Standard: Preferable for non-virtual or slightly virtual environments. Includes all the features of a server along with two virtual instances. It also provides the Processor and CAL (Client Access License) Licensing model. It even provides 4 TB RAM.
Datacenter: Useful for highly virtualised environments. It comes with all the features with unlimited virtual instances. The licensing model for this edition provides Processor + CAL with a 4 TB RAM limit.
Foundation: A cost-efficient and all-rounder server. It has all the functionalities of the server only without virtualisation rights. However, the licensing option limits to 15 users and the memory limit provided is 32 GB RAM.
